What is an eSIM ?

Curious about what is an eSIM ??

The new technology introduced to the world by Google pixel 2 and Iphone Xs

The normal SIM cards has survived for centuries, but it looks like its on its way out, WHY ?
Well eSIM, the smarter technology is here to serve us for the rest of our life time.

What is a SIM ?

Before we started about eSIM lets clear about hat is a SIM.
- SIM stands for "Subscriber Identity Module".
- SIM has its own memory which helps user to store their contacts, SMS etc.
- SIM helps to find out celluler companies network, it helps us to use their network for making a calls or using internet service.

What is an eSIM ?

- It is exactly like it sounds it is an electronic SIM which are comes inbuilt with your smart phone.
- It is a small chip which used to authenticate your identity to the celluler company.

- What if we need to switch carrier ?

During travelling many of us needs to switch their carriers. Is that mean we have to switch our cell phones.? Obiviously no. Switching between two carriers is possible with eSIM. Even this could be its own advantage, insted of ordering new sim card and wait for it to activate you can directly request to new carrier from your phone, even it supports multiple accounts so you could easily switch between two networks.

It is so easy, isn't it ?

No, it is not how it looks like. Its likely your phone will have new settings menus to your SIM card, and will allow you to switch carriers and manage accounts straight from your phone.

- Google Pixel 2 was the first phone to introduce eSIM technology, and apps to manage your eSIM settings. But then Iphone Xs came out and it offers both physical sim as well as eSIM feature.

- Unfortunately, the chinese does not like this technology and refuse to adopt this eSIM. So it would be the bad news for those who has planning to travels to china with this eSIM enabled smart phone. It will not work there.

- This SIM is also helpful for another reason, it makes device smaller. It means there are some extra space for battery so increases battery backup. It helps more in weareble devices than mobile phones.

- Apple watch searies 3 and series 4 already have eSIMs, and this is how apple manage to keep the device with same size as previous generations.

When Can I start Using That?

It willtakes time to realised full potentials of the eSIM. Some handsets are started to work on bulding this technology, like apple and google they already have introduces this technology with their products but carriers which support this technology is very few in india till date.

It is still slow in process but surely if your carrier supports and your phone supports, then you could use this technology. For now, we have to use phones with the traditional sim card slots, but it is possible that SIM card trays go away altogether in next some years.
